This process of making a website was surprisingly very simple and fun. I think that because WordPress allows us to choose our own template, it was easy to layout the website in an organized way. While using WordPress made the site making process easier in terms of layout, I do think it made it more difficult to make the site personal, especially as someone with little to no computer design skills. One of my goals when first making the site was that it reflected my personality and who I was. I am not sure if I completely succeeded in completing this; but, I did color coordinate my site, add images(some I’ve taken and some from online), and an about me page to make the site better reflect myself.
Considering this class is about digital media, I really like that we were able to complete all of our assignments on our website. It is especially significant for the research paper, as this site shows the various steps it took to complete the final paper. I was also able to link any relevant pictures or articles when completing assignments, which was very useful for the content I was writing. I liked that for each assignment, we could write in a blog-like manner, as it was relevant to our class discussions.
This aspect of our class truly opened my eyes to the ways in which I can easily utilize various resources on the internet. I have never made my own website before this, but I definitely would do it again. I think WordPress was the perfect platform for a more text based blog; however, if I were to make my own website in the future, I think I would use a different platform that would allow me to post more videos and images, or make it more personal.
